Speculate to aggravate
AS WE GET CLOSER to the launch of the DAAMIT X2900 (
nee R600) and the Goblin 8600, the speculation and rumour mounts up, until almost every message board in the industry is alight with 'sources' and 'confirmations'.
Today, there's some good stuff on both these cards, if only titbits, the merest morsels of misinformation, rather than full-blown courses of conjecture.
Nvidia's 8600 GTS has not only been spotted in the wild,
but purchased, too. One lucky Aussie chap found the card at a local retailer, picked it up, and is now having a whale of a time benchmarking it and posing for pictures. Initial indications seem to be that it's a decent card for the money, with performance perhaps above where some where expecting it to be. So much for NDAs, huh?
Finally, 'confirmed'
pricing on the R6xx series. The R600 will cost $499, 630 XT $199, 630 Pro $179, and 610 $99. Given the massive variation in SKUs likely to take place, this seems rather like an overly-simplified perspective. Take those with a pinch of salt or, more seasonally, a gob-full of chocolate.
