I'm upgrading my graphics card i have both a pci slot and a agp 4x slot. What is the differnece in speed and performance between pci and agp cards. The card i'm getting is a Elsa gladiac 511 geforce2 MX400, this card is avalible in both pci and agp formats. will there be any differnce in performance between the agp card and the pci one?

Not shure but I think the AGP slot is faster than the PCI slot

AGP or Accelerated Graphics Port is a bus interface for graphics accelerators. AGP gives graphics accelerators fast, high throughput direct access to system memory. This allows a graphics accelerator access to more memory than available locally on the graphics card. For example, to display a scene that contains 16MB of textures, a 4MB AGP graphics card could access the PC system memory for the additional 12MB required.

As PC applications become more graphics intensive - with multiplayer 3D games, advanced CAD program, virtual reality "malls" - the bandwidth required to display each screen rises dramatically. AGP has a lot of advantages over PCI. For example most AGP cards nowadays can store RAM locally via AGP memory, rather than having to draw from system RAM to get more resources.

Get the AGP card. They usually cost the same. (In fact the AGP's are sometimes cheaper because most people want them).

It is sometime easier to overclockan Intel engine to a higher bus speed with a pci graphics card because the pci buss usually handles a good hard clocking better than the AGP buss and you sometimes have more incremental control over the PCI bus than the AGP buss.
That said, AGP is the way to go.
