New generation set to 18

DVD player manufacturer Plextor is set to release a new machine that can record at speeds of 18 times.


The new E-IDE PX-760A DVD recorder will be able to do its 18 times speed on single layers and a blistering ten times on a double sided DVD+R DL. It can also burn DVD-RW, DVD-VR and CD-R/W media as well.

It will hit the shops for $119 USD in April of this year. There will be a USB version and an E-IDE drive.

It has a 2MB buffer and uses Plextor's PowerRec technology adjusts the laser intensity and burn speed to correct impurities in the recordable media. More here.

Yes...very interesting. It was announced severak weeks back, and I have been checking magazine ads for a while.

Yes, but can you buy media that will run at that speed. I find that in a stack of 16X media, sometimes i only get 8X.

Anyway, since i update the firmware of my DVD-burner and getting 8x,
yeah sure,it was very fast and this was ok.
But I will not buy a new DVD burner only bcause it can burn at 18x!

Yeah excatly I can burn at 16x so 18x is not a big deal. lol Plus 2mb buffer sucks. I have 4mb buffer.
