See what you mean about needing help with Slackware Cartman.

I don't know enough yet about commands and couldn't get installation started so I went to SuSE 8.0. Man, this is the slickest installation of all I've tried so far: Caldera 3.1.1; RedHat 7.3 (my most unfavorite) Mandrake 8.2

Think I'll stop here with this dual boot setup and get used to it. Gotta figure out how to get it to recognize the LAN, which must be a pretty simple problem. (I hope)

I really like SuSE 8.0, but I still can't figure out how to configure so I can "see" the LAN. Otherwise, installed Star Office 6, got the KMail working great and swinging along.

There's no way that Uncle Willy is in danger. Windows XP is just to fantastic to abandon. But Linux has gone a long way in a LONG time, but surprising when you consider the financial base--or lack thereof.

If your LAN is using Windows then what you need is Samba. You can find it at samba.netfilter.org. Again there should be a how-to on it at [link]www.tldp.org.[/link]

Hope this helps.
