hi
does anybody know which of the different linux operating systems is the best is there a site like betaone for linux as well thanks |
I prefer Mandrake 8.2 although Red Hat 7.2 is good. I here that SUSE 8 is supposed to be brilliant, although I haven't tried it myself.
www.linuxnewbie.org (click on the discussion button) Hope this helps. |
Depends on what you need and like ?
I like Slackware but it doesnt do anything for sure you have to get your hands dirty for it. :D |
Debian
|
love suse now on 8.0 i like it but mandrake was oke for me too
|
1 - Mandrake
2 - RedHat 3 - Slackware |
Advice - dont use bestlinux
Its one of the first I tried... Its incredibly slow compared to other distros, its outdated, etc.... Mandrake is nice... and I tried the Suse liveval CD and that rocks... A whole distro you can boot and run of the CD... no harddisk required (although if you dont have a fat32 partition any changes you make in linux are lost on restart) |
I prefer RedHat, currently released 7.3 which is quite good.
To be honest I haven't tried any of the others. Just pick one of the most popular distributions and try it! |
I installed SuSE Pro v.8 and it set up amazing easy. Although i got an internet connection through me 4 port LinkSys router ok, I couldn't get it to "see" the LAN, nor could the LAN see this machine, although the DHCP table showed the Linux machine. I guess there is still a configuration procedure I need to figure out.
Perhaps I shall try Red Hat 7.3 and see how that does. |
Wish i could buy a new computer!! :(
