Hi Folks, my experience with Western Digital drives are that they are less reliable than Maxtor/Quantum....Hence the lower price. A low price means lower Speed/lower Reliability/lower Performance over all. Hence "Beware"...

Hey Bads, here are some prices from a local store where I live, and they usually compete better than the chain stores. So it looks like you were going to pay way too much for that drive.

HDI IBM 60GB 7200rpm IDE (U100) $88.00
HDI Maxtor 60GB 7200rpm IDE (U133) #6L060J3 $101.50
HDI IBM 80GB 7200rpm IDE (U100) $103.00

Hi Bads1

No, even with your old drive as a master, you can still do the copy. I guess you will be using a program like Ghost or DriveImage. After the copy, just swap the master and slave configuration and all should work well.

Keep in mind that copying of FAT16 partitions can't be done on partitions that are larger then 2048 Mb, but I guess noone is still using FAT16 anymore.

Cheers,
Cactus

Thanks Le Cactus

I'm using NTFS and Drive Image for copying the HD

1- I install my second HD as slave

2- I copy my HD to the other one

3- I change master and slave jumper and my new HD will boot ?

If I'm wrong let me know

Thanks
