hmmm.....7200rpm is the way to go.

Sephiroth 6th Jun 02 05:56 AM

yep, 7200rpm drives are far faster than 5400rpm

Crowdirt 6th Jun 02 07:52 AM

Hi Folks, my experience with Western Digital drives are that they are less reliable than Maxtor/Quantum....Hence the lower price. A low price means lower Speed/lower Reliability/lower Performance over all. Hence "Beware"...:(

Thanks all for your comments,

I will search for another one who is 7200 rpm

Actually I have an IBM Desktar that I have paid over $300 CDN 1 year ago and this is a 20 gigs 7200 rpm ;)

But I need more space :p

Hey Bads, here are some prices from a local store where I live, and they usually compete better than the chain stores. So it looks like you were going to pay way too much for that drive.

HDI IBM 60GB 7200rpm IDE (U100) $88.00
HDI Maxtor 60GB 7200rpm IDE (U133) #6L060J3 $101.50
HDI IBM 80GB 7200rpm IDE (U100) $103.00

Ok,

I have just buy this one :HDI Maxtor 60GB 7200rpm IDE (U133) #6L060J3 $101.50 for $165 CDN

Now I need to install it as master and copy my other drive to this one :glare:

I need this new as master for booting but I need my C Partition on this one, just copy to this one ?

Cactus 7th Jun 02 09:49 PM

Hi Bads1

No, even with your old drive as a master, you can still do the copy. I guess you will be using a program like Ghost or DriveImage. After the copy, just swap the master and slave configuration and all should work well.

Keep in mind that copying of FAT16 partitions can't be done on partitions that are larger then 2048 Mb, but I guess noone is still using FAT16 anymore.

Cheers,
Cactus

Thanks Le Cactus

I'm using NTFS and Drive Image for copying the HD

1- I install my second HD as slave

2- I copy my HD to the other one

3- I change master and slave jumper and my new HD will boot ?

If I'm wrong let me know

Thanks
