Partition Magic file count greater than 4 billion error?

I am trying to reorganize my 40 gig. I use it mostly for storage but at one time I did use it for a system disk with a 6 GB partition up front. Now I have deleted the old 6 GB partition and I am trying to resize the secondary partition to the whole size. When I start the operation, I get an error that says file count greater than 4 billion and the deleted 6GB remains unallocated. If I clean out my other partition, will it work better or is there something else causing this?

According to windows, there are 18,968 files and 1,692 folders, so what gives?

you want to resize to full 40G ?

if that is the case.. why not fdisk and fresh format?

I may have to, but I have a lot of data to back up. About 15 GB. Some is redundant, so there are hours of sorting involved. I am slowly gaining ground in freespace.
