i get the verbatim with AZO dye. these are top-rated cd-rs. if im just transferring something from computer to computer or giving a disk with some crap on it to someone, i use a cheaper disk like memorex or something.

i just get whatever is either free or real cheap after mail-in rebates.  haven't had any problems with any of it.  most of the time its either verbatim, imitation, prime peripherals.
At chrismas time I always get 300 Memorex cd-r.
So I'm al set for the year.

oh, i figured out how to determine the speed of a CDR. It is sooo simple, only thing is we may haven't noticed it before.
here we go:
just insert the cdr and start the nero burning or start the nero burning rom and insert the cdr, whatever lol, when you select the burn tab, the highest speed available is the speed that your cdr can be burnt. for some 40x cdrs of mine, the 48x was invisible. and for my 4x cdrw disks, only 4x and 2x and 1x was visible. as sooon as i realised this, i quickly put one of my TDK GOLD cdrs and checked and it showed 48x. so that means it IS compatible with 48x. i didnt realise this before, i didn;t use any other cdr media before which is not compatible with 48x. so all the possible speeds were available for my TDK GOLD, and i didn't realise Nero is determining the speed of the cdr. lol. now no worries

Hi Flanderz,

Don't know if this is the right place to discuss here ?

It can be done by flashing the firmware of your writer with a small program :MTKFLASH.exe
You can find a lot of info here: (for Liteon drives)

Oh neat! I have a litie, unfortunately I can't even flash the damn thing with new bios!! I guess because it is OEM. Good thing it has the last stable bios they put out before just adding more media signatures, so if it does not recognize the media, it just burns at max. :P I have not had a problem yet burning generic unidentified CDR media at 24X which is the MAX of my drive. Otherwise I get what is on special or get Memorex which I think has the best quality versus price ratio. I think out of about 300 memorex disks, I have only found maybe three defective ones ever. Generic ones run the risk of being crappy. One stack of 50 generic disks I got had over 10 defective disks in the stack!
