Hi to all

I just slipstreamed 'official' M$ SP1 into WinXP but I'm not sure if I've done it correctly, and I have a query or two about the CD/ISO size before and after slipstreaming, which I hope someone can answer?

The CD and ISO size before slipstreaming was:

CD: 512.342.016 (488M
ISO: 512.342.016 (488M
CRC: 0x6E8390C0

Afterwards:

CD: 562.116.608 (536M
ISO: 538.765.312 (513M
CRC: 0x74E6F234

I used WinISO to make an ISO image of the CD, then copied the contents ot the CD to another folder. I then slipstreamed SP1 into the XP folder, then opened the ISO and deleted the contents. I then copied the newly integrated files back into WinISO, saved it and then burnt it using ISO recorder (I could not find the option to burn the ISO image in WinISO)

Regards

I don't know why the CD and ISO sizes are different after slipstreaming but if anyone can comment on this, I would appreciate it.
Braveheart, you need to use cdimage to make the iso with.

Slipstreamed and compiled corp per instructions, and repair install blows error from CD:

Error:
Installation Failed: F:\I386\asms. Error Message : Incorrect function.
***
Fatal Error:
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.
Incorrect function.
***

After it reboots to continue install with the CD out of the drive, it gives the option to use files from another location. Using the slipstreamed directories from the HD(from which the CD was compiled), install continues.

Not sure what gives and cannot find this specific error anywhere.

Probably you had a read-error from your burnt CD depending on a "bad" media or maybe a OC-ed computer. I always install the OS with default settings. Then...afterwards when you are up and running you could start to tweak your settings.

Default speed PIII 1.0G, conservative memory settings. I'm actually beginning to think it's a flaky Sony CD-RW drive, but the error is in the same place, consistant across several image burns.

I have a few things to try yet, just curious if anyone else had seen this error, or if I'm the lucky one.

why do i get an eror message when running the update.exe ..... command line. something like "not all the required files are present..." Is there a way of copying the XP CD files to the hard disk? Which files must be present?

Take the original unextracted SP1 file and execute using this command:

/s:x:\path
where x:\path=drive and full path to directory containing the i386 directory you wish to integrate into.

this will re-extract the service pack in a randomly named directory(that will need to be manually deleted later) and integrate automatically.

I had that same error also, and the above method worked.

What version are you using? Corp? DO?
