anyone have any potential ideas on how to FORCE WinXP Pro to remember folder settings?....i believe i have all the proper options checked, but some windows (ie. Control Panel), refuse to keep the settings i choose....like i want Icons to show, but it constantly resorts back to Details when i reopen the window

a couple of months ago i posted a similar message, and was advised to delete a bunch of Registry values/folders, but that didn't seem to work

I'm not sure if this will cure your problem, but it might be worth looking at.

My folders wouldn't hold their size properly, and this seemed to fix it.

Sometimes windows XP forgets it's folder view settings.

Here is the solution.

Backup these RegKeys.

1:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell NoRoam\BagMRU]

2:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell NoRoam\Bags]

After that you must delete them.

Restart windows to take effect.

Now you can change each folder and the setting will stay.

Ok, I am curious....

Is this a bug in Windows XP that hasn't been addressed even by the Service Pack 1 ?
Because, this has never happened to me in Windows 98, Windows ME or in Windows 2000....
