Check that the floppy cable is the right way around.
The twist at one end of the floppy cable should be connected to floppy drive.
NOT the motherboard

Hi Bads 1, does the floppy work ok if you are using something other than Win 2K/XP, such as Win98? If so then the cabling is ok and the hardware is ok. I have found a problem something like this which has to do with machines that use the Intel 815 Chipset. See my Post further down the list here. Comments?

hello crowdirt
Thanks for your help,
I know this is not an hardware problem because sometimes the floppy works.
The floppy is not very old about 3 years and low usage.
I have no other OS to test it !
My motherboard is an Asus P3BF with a 440BX chipset.
Friday I have put some stuff in my floppy and all was working fine ??

Hi Bads 1, the issue I am working on is intermittent. Sometimes the floppy is ok, usually after a Reboot. Works ok for awhile and then wanders off. The problem is a combination of corrupted large files and format failures. We have lots of 815 Chipset machines at work, running Win9X with no problem. Win 2K/XP on the same machines are flakey. The 440 Chipset is from Intel and may have traces of this problem as well. We have our Hardware Vendors working on it and so far they have not found an answer.

NT/2K/XP format floppies differently from Win9X. The Boot Loader is different etc. I suspect it is something about the Floopy Driver but M$ does not have anything else available at the moment, Checked Technet etc. May have to wait awhile for a solution. If I find one will pass it along.
