Upcoming handsets get a big graphics push, courtest of new ATI chipsets.
Mobile phone manufacturer LG has announced its intention to use ATI's IMAGEON 2300 graphics chip for use in upcoming 3D gaming handsets. The first phone to use the new tech is the SV360 which will start shipping at the end of 2005. The phone will feature a landscape display (better suited for vids than the portrait-style on 99% of handsets) with crisp 320x240 resolution. The chip can push over 10,000 triangles per frame, guaranteeing some nicely rendered in-game models and backgrounds.
"LG chose ATI?s IMAGEON 2300 for this new phone because they wanted a processor that could deliver an immersive and smooth gaming experience unlike anything previously available on a handset," says Paul Dal Santo, Vice President and General Manager, Handheld Products Group, ATI Technologies. ?ATI is working with many wireless industry leaders to cultivate the mobile 3D ecosystem, bringing together content creators, hardware manufacturers and carriers, to help make mobile 3D gaming a reality."
