UNIX, and I assume Linux also, fully supports client access from other workstations (any OS) using Telnet or X-Windows. Unlike Windows it has always been a client server OS.

As I recall by the time XP hit the streets there were a couple of patches required. Two months is quite an improvement; however, expect more: remember this is Windows, not UNIX.
