Today at TechEd Europe, we announced a new Express product line, including SQL Server Express Edition, a lightweight version of SQL Server 2005 designed for building simple dynamic applications. SQL Server Express Edition helps developers build dynamic and reliable applications by providing a freely redistributable, easy to use, and robust database. It includes all the rich functionality included in the SQL Server 2005 database engine such as stored procedures, views, triggers, cursors, CLR support, and XML support. A technical preview of SQL Server Express Edition, based on our upcoming SQL Server 2005 Beta 2, is available for free download today from:

SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 - Coming Soon!
We are nearing completion of developing and testing SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 and are targeting its release in the coming weeks. SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 will be available in Developer Edition as well as Express Edition. You will have access to SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 through Betaplace. For those of you that are MSDN Universal, Enterprise, or Professional subscribers, SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 will also be available for download from the MSDN downloads site when it is released.
