I have i know asked this before but how does Win2k XP make a NTFS disk when it starts to install, its still in a Dos gui blue screen which files are used to make NTFS, in Dos it would be Fdisk.exe Format.com.
And still can i boot into dos and format patition my hard disk in NTFS. |
1: It doesn't. It creates a partition and format it FAT. hen when the installation is finished it converts it to NTFS. (Btw: I don't recommend to manage the installation this way. It's better to format the partition NTFS first and then performe the install.)
2: Partition Magic (and maybe others) does this. Last time you asked I followed the thread with some interest to see if there were other ideeas. What is the situation with your boot-floppy-project? |
Thanx .Unicorn for your input i have made a boot flopy with win98 sys files and all the normal files +
chdsk country deltree display edit fdisk (new version for over 64gb hd) format keybd himem io mscdex mode msdos smartdrv mouse readntfs plus other small files everything works ok but would still like some other NTFS utilities. If i find any good ideas will publish them here.jtk |
That is some stuff. How much space is there left?
|
Hey jtk! :-)
If you deleted the target partition in W2K/XP setup you get the option to format the drive to FAT or NTFS. I don´t know how to pull the format program though from the Setup CD... |
Hi guys there is 240 kb left now on disk i am still looking for the right files.
Will let you know if i find something. I have converted my XP drive which was Fat32 to NTFS without any problems all the installation is intact, this was useing partition magic 7.0 from windows. jtk |
Hey mate, check your PMs to check your Private Message 8 ;) :)

I think i have got everybody stumped on this one, can nobody tell how, and what is needed when partitioning and formating a new hard disk to NTFS, i know you can do it from 4 setup disks or from
windows cdrom.I just want to know this procedure, its good to understand how win2k xp work when installing etc..jtk |
Check BIOS: Boot Sequence is CDROM/C/A
Insert the Windows 2000/XP CD Press any key to continue, when it asks so Wait while the drivers are loaded (this may take several minutes) Press Enter to setup Windows 2000/XP Press F8 to accept the License Agreement Select the drive you want to install (C: or D: or etc) If it is a brand new hard disk, then select the Full Format (not the quick format), (or else it will instruct you to do so,) If it is a used hard disk, "Leave the current file system (no changes)" will be selected by default, but choose the full format Follow the rest of the steps.... This is the basic procedure you gotta do during the setup. Just follow the instructions, and that's all. Backup your documents to another storage device, and just play with. That's how everyone learns something for the first time -- by experience :) |
