lmao just my luck i've been trying to figure this out for days now and the secound i post a question about it i figure it out. thanks anyway guys hehe i found a program called avipreview that plays the file

AVI-Preview is good for previewing incomplete files but it will often stop playing when it reaches non-contigious blocks. Using DivFix might be a better option - it will analyze the partial AVI file, remove non-availible parts, and generate a fixed AVI file which should play in any software.
