Up early cause i have to sleep all day, cause I work at night, and saw this on CNN:
Sign up beginning today for the national No Call Registry.. If you register today till the end of July then come october 1 it will be illegal for most tellamarketers to call you. You can register up to 3 numbers and you have to provide a valid email address. This IS a FREE service, so if someone wants you to pay it is a scam!!!! go here for the hook up _http://www.donotcall.gov |
Long-distance phone companies, charities, surveys and calls on behalf of politicians are exempt from the registry.
Run by the federal government. Hmm, I wonder how effective THAT will be    |
The webpage is so damn busy, it wont let me connect!!!
|
The best solution is keep the answering machine on 24/7. :)

The companies that are exempt from the registry, really aren't. If you tell them not to call you, and they persist, they are also liable for that $11,000 fine too, according to the web site. It's about time too. I pay for my phone specifically for my private use. If they want to use my phone for their marketing purposes, they can also pay my bill every month!

"but if you make a request to a specific organization that they not call you, they are required to honor your request. If they subsequently call you again, they may be subject to a fine of up to $11,000." Apparently individual states' efforts didn't do much to stem the flow of crap to your phone. Hopefully the Fed government can do a better job. It all comes down to how much telemarketing SCUM contribute to political campaigns this year, we all know that! |
i just pay a couple bucks extra on my phone bill to stop them...well worth it to me...just had it put on when i moved last week...went from 5-10 calls a day to wondering why i need a phone :D
(just calls from work or inlaws) hmmmm woonder if they can screen them out as well |
I have caller ID and a Three Year old little girl who likes talking on the phone. So I just have her anwser it, It can be quite hurmorous at times. I sometime put her on the speaker phone (and at times it is all I can do but to LOLROTF) I think some off the telemarketer like talking to some one who is postive as well. (
BUT I am gonna sign up as well. |
Thanks!! For the good information!! It about time they put a foot down on these suckers!! Does any one know if there is a registry for Canada?
thanks!! Protecteur |
Well I hope it works. This is a warning t all the telemarkerters out there.
Do NOT Call Me Or I will see your ass in court I have two lawyer cousins, and they would love to come after your ass. That and I dont play games when it comes to my telephone. I think this is bull shit none theless. They should pay us if they want to call us. You should not have to pay or even sign up not to get called. Only way they should be able to call is if they pay you. That includes Long-distance phone companies, charities, surveys, and even the cops. |
The fed. program is modeled after my state program (Colorado) It has been in effect for over a year and works quite well even. Many telemarketing firms have been fined a whole bunch of money and I mean a whole bunch. The state not only keeps the list up it goes after the offenders quite quickly and effeciently. This will not stop all tho if you purchase something from a store they can call all they want. But I will say this unwanted phone call in this house have declined over 80%.

My wife and I just have two cell phones, no regular phone. We don't even give our credit card companies our phone number. We went over two years with nothing but our wanted calls being received and then after I put something for sale in the newspaper BANG telemarketers were calling all the time. We changed our numbers. No more ads in the paper for us. I'm too scared to give the .gov our numbers. After all, we don't get telemarket calls anymore so why signup. Hope it works for the rest of you.

Well starting next week I won't have to worry about it, I hope, since all private numbers will be blocked. And I am starting a white list soon. :)
Yeap using my computer. Just hope it works like it should. Glad it's free too. |
