yeah...read that a while go..too long..too boring.
Why dont u summarize? :) what about this lil kit? [link]http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2028689969[/link] |
Hmmm....well after working with "Wireless" communication for over 3 years now, the best Summary that I can come up with is "There are NO simple Answers".... ;)

if linksys is too expensive, than yeah i'd go with Intel products. I don't know much about the details of setting it up, etc....than again I hear much of it is simply plug n play.

alright well.
When buyin the ocmputer..i saw the Intel USB Phoneline AnyPoint networkin things for $30 each. SO...picked up a pair. By 1:45 the system was up and running a fresh install of XP Pro on NTFS (none of this HOME on FAT32 nonsense for this family :D) By 5:00pm (this post)...everything works smooooothly. my computer can access the net perfect. my moms can access the net perfect w/ reasonable speeds. If this comp isnt downloading, that computer can still download at a good 100KBps or so (downloaded some 14MB drivers) as opposed to the 120KBps here. So... a loss of 20KBps seems ok to me, right? After A LOT of tweaking. I got the network up too. So we can share files and this printer. So....it all works. :) thanks ;edit; spoke to soon. Ok...this keeps happening. IE cant go to websites over there sometimes. This computer is fine everything. over there, AIM connects fine. I'm using a Proxy server I found at [link]www.analog-x.com[/link] It works at times. Any ideas how to make it work all the time? Is there another proxy server i should use? I dont really wanna use XPs internet sharing cuz thats all complicated..haha..like this stuff isnt :-D |
get rid of the proxy software. WindowsXP automatically sets up and configures network settings. The proxy software probably conflicts with XP's native drivers, etc. And for that matter, don't use proxy settings at all.......connect directly instead. Use the networking wizard that comes with XP. Don't be scared to use it, or think its too complicated. Its setup so that a little child could do it. Just follow the instructions, and answer a few questions.
|
I know, that networking wizard actually works remarkable well (one of the few things in XP that did exactly as advertised).
|
hmmm.......ok. I tried that, but it didnt really work. It freaked out all the time.
Do i have to make a disk when it asks me to? I'll do that tomorrow again, when i have all day. |
make sure both computers are on the same domain name, for example, "MSHOME" are what me&my dad are on and we can see each others computer just fine. Also, not sure if it'll help, but try turning off the ICF(Internet connection firewall) on both PC's. If both computers are running XP, making a networking disk should not be necessary. Only if one of the computers have W2K or previous on them, than yes.
|
yeah...well right now as it stands
seeing the computers is fine, no problems. its just the internet doesnt wanna connect at times. AIM will connect generally all the time. |
I sure do like my LinkSys 4 port wireless. Money well spent. Makes life so nice having the wireless laptop downstairs.
