Ok thanks for that.
I am using BPFTP now, which I find really good. It does most of the work by itself. I was using cuteFTP first, but some features wouldn't work (probably operators error!) Ciao now!! |

Now here IS a dumb question.. If the server says "no hammering, set retry to > 60 secs" should I set 61 secs and number of retries to say 500! will this piss off the guy at the other end? Is this acceptable behavior? Or should I only retry say 20 times. we ARE at the lowest level here.... Thanks Ciao[/quote:8b16aae2d7] Normally the operators of the FTP site will banned the I.P address that is hammering their server every 5 secs, so I say following the wishes of FTP site is a wise move. :D [ August 12, 2001 06:46 PM: Last edited by dazlink ] |
Yes...
Always be sure to READ the server instructions BEFORE connecting! Server software can be set to autoban people that try to connect more than what is specified... |
I use 5 retries. If I cant get in after 5 times. I go back later. With a retry delay of 70 sec.

Got a question here..... My firewall at work
will only allow FTP downloads from Port 21 yet most FTP sites seem to use every port imaginable <g> except 21. Am I screwed? |
it depends what firewall u are using. u can cofigure it to let ports be opened or close thats where u can block incomin and out going

Hi triminatr.
May I know how to prevent timeout error in CuteFTP, I got this error quite often when connecting to certain FTP. Is there a way to prevent this from happening ? My connection is from a corp. LAN. Thanks. |
