hmmm, so people......

ZONE OR MCAFFE?

what do some of the 'experts' think??

Berlin2 7th Oct 02 01:42 AM

Try both, separately, & see what u think. I used Zone for a long time. Now I will try McAffee for a while. These products are good enough for individual users, imho, altho it always possible that a crack in any product will appear in time. Its only software, after all.

Zone alarm is a joke- Ask just about anyone in the tech comunity. McAffee is OK as are Kerio and Tiny but unfortunately the best firewall (Other than a hardware firewall) is either Norton Personal Firewall, Norton Internet Security on Ymantec Client Firewall. All are fully cutomisable and auto configuring for most of the common internet apps.

well, i am moving in the right direction, from Zone to McAfee. I thought so.

DoG 7th Oct 02 03:28 AM

lol, you could turn zone off and move in the right direction :P

McAfee firewall Plus and Norton Internet Security are both really good firewall and easy to learn ;)

i have black ice protection.........

it does work properly doesn't it???

IMO, Zone Alarm is not a bad beginning firewall. It is very easy to set up, and is very user friendly. As far as it being a joke, a little fact would be nice before that general statement is made. Just saying it is a joke is not very informative.

BlackIce on the other hand is NOT a firewall. BlackIce is an intrusion detection software. Meaning it will monitor any and all traffic coming into your computer, but it will not monitor any outbound traffic. Therefore it is not a good solution to a firewall.

ZoneAlarm monitors both inbound and outbound traffic. The reason you want outbound traffic monitored is for the protection against trojan horses and such.

Hope some of that info is helpful.

Also, a good site to help you with Kerio, which is a good firewall.

Actually Black-Ice versions 3.5 will monitor outgoing connections.

I didn't know that Dave. That is good to know.

I guess when a company misrepresents their software as being something it is not, a person tends not to ever go back and see if they have changed.
