That generates the Bootsect.dos and makes it doesn't matter about win-2000 or XP because this is the file you need to boot a DOS based OS.

I was mistaken above when I called it the "win-98 boot.bin" the correct name is "Bootsect.dos".

That article looks the same as khauyeung's methoud except for the last part. I don't think he needed to do a repair of XP but re-wrote the MBR to boot XP by using a tool called "BootNT4.com" that did the XP equivilant of a "sys C:".

Following that article should work fine though but as already mentioned, back up your system first and please be carefull.

Thanks for that link Shiro, nice read.

I tried the tip from the website recommended, some of the stuff wouldnt work for me so I improvised.
I used Partition Magic to make two bootable FAT32 partitions..which involved converting 2k to FAT32, which P.Magic did also.
I then made the new empty partition active and installed 98 to that.
The option of repairing the XP boot sector given on the website didnt work, it gave an invalid DOS version message on both OS.
So i was stuck with two bootable OS that required me to switch active partitions to use them..so a buddy recommended I use System Commander, I installed it to 98.. rebooted and was given a choice of which OS to boot from ..
All done
Thanks to all that helped including bober from the F4 HUB.
