AS EXPECTED Via introduced its tiny "NanoBGA" X86 processor at the Microprocessor Forum yesterday.
We saw a sample of this 15mm x 15mm chip at Computex a few weeks back ? it's so small that if you've got large fingernails you might lose it in there.
The chip runs at six watts at 800MHz and seven watts at 1GHz, claims Via, and doesn't need a fan, as you'd expect.
The chip is called the Eden-N chip, and Via says it's half the size of a Pentium M and will use a 12cm x 12cm Nano-ITX motherboard.
The chip also includes an encryption engine called "Padlock ACE" which will provide extra security for 802.11x networks, for example.
Here's Via's own size comparison.
