I've got a plextor 12x10x32, yesterday it developed a problem

I use Easycd Creator and Clonecd to copy onto blank disks, but the software/hardware does not recognise the blank cd, it says insert a new cd.

Well I've tried loads of cds now and different brands as well, but still the same problem.

The annoying thing is when I use Directcd to write to a cd-rw its fine, and the drive recognises normal cds.

This all happened when I was making backups of music cds, the software/hardware worked twice on blank cds then would'nt recognise anymore. The laser must be okay as it works fine with cd-rw's.

I am going to download updates and firmwares to see if that cures it, but has anyone else encountered this problem?

the fact that it sees and writes to cdrw discs is not relavent,

there are effectivly 3 laserse in the drive, not literally, i think, but differant specs for the 3 functions, read, write cd and write cdrw

any one of the 3 functions can fail and not affect the other 2

i would say it is faulty, contact plextor, hopefully it is still in warranty

@bigtubs, as I said I am going to download the drivers, which I have at work. So I will install them tonight.

@tony adams, I've had it a couple of years now and I bought it from a computer fair,so I guess the warranty has expired but I will install the updates and firmware upgrades to see if that makes a difference.

Ps tony do you play for arsenal?

I bought it around xmas time, so it must be 18 months old then, but I bought it from a pc fair so the warranty is probably worthless. But, I will check it out anyway.

Thanks

where you bought it should not matter, most companies just go by the build date which will be on the drive somewhere

they operate a swap out service as far as i know, send you a new one you send yours back all at their expence

plex europe is in belgium phone 32 2 725 55 22

sure you will be able to do it on the net

good luck

tony

***UPDATE***

Last night I formatted my hard drive and re loaded XPPro, with the latest updates to easycd and clonecd.

Everything is working fine now, it seems strange that it stopped working half way through a job, but thats computers for you!

Thanks for your replys
