How to start something like midnitechallenge

I was just wondering I dont want to pay to play this game, I use the free service, but you dont get enough credits! besides I think its cool and I'd like to make or find something like this game. Anyone know where I can find info on how to get something like this started or know of something already out there that is free? Well TIA

Your post may be more of a 'PC Gaming' issue, but since you're interested in possibly developing your own online version I suppose we'll let it ride in here for a while to see what kind of responses you get. If it starts leaning more towards gaming, we can always move it across.
