Need to help a friend

a mate of mine has a evesham p111 600 with 128mb pc100 ram he bought 512mb ram in two 256 modules when he installed the 512mb it was not reconised at all when he booted up he then took one module out and just installed the 256 module still nothing he then replaced the ram with his original and all worked perfectly.Would this be a bios setting or an upgrade of the bios to reconise the 256 modules.it's a K7 Pro atx ir3 motherboard and a ami bios version 1.21a

i'm not familiar with that mb but i would think it would recognize at least 256mb. check the company's website and see how much that model can handle. sorry i couldn't be more help.
