I'm having trouble setting up an ftp server behind an SMC Barricade 7004AWBR router. Anybody know how to configure the router to allow this? I've tried putting in the internet ip into the server setup (using Serve-Uv.3)

*******a bit later in time:

Ok I for to work, but one thing I don't understand. When the computer trying to log into my ftp server logs on using port 21 the log on procedure takes it through user name, password on port 21 and then access the ip through a random port: 1024 in one case. Inorder to allow the connection I had to add a range of ports in the router setup.

Why is a random port necessary? Leaving those ports "open" in the router may allow hackers to get in, no?

I'll answer myself and propose hxxp://www.practicallynetworked.com/howto/

Looks like some good configuring advice here.
