hi there

i have been running an athlon thunderbird 1.4ghz with the k7s5a for a month or two and its been fine with windows xp. however, recently, i've noticed that the bios sometimes loses its memory and i have to configure everything (e.g. date and pnp cpu) again, otherwise the checks fail.

it was only bought 2 months ago, so what could the problem be. i think the bios revision is the december version, and the board does not have the integrated LAN.

could it be the battery on the board?? but why would it get nackered so quickly??

is it worth updating my bios??

i think the problem comes to light when the mains power line is disconnected from the mains. but i also believe it may happen spontaneously after a few days or a week. i'm not sure.

Cactus is an unknown quantity at this point
Hi,

I don't know where the cause of your problem lies, but where it is the bios upgrade is concerned, if it ain't a Beta, I always update the Bios to the latest version that is available.

Of course the battery might be very well be the cause, but also crashing programs have corrupted my CMOS settings every now and then.

Cheers
Cactus

I went through 2 of k7s5a board's. Both had the same problems you described. Would work fine then lose cmos, not boot, not post.. leave it then it would work for a little bit then back to the same thing. Look up k7s5a message boards. I finally dumped it and got an Iwill kk266+, no probs

I HATE the k7s5a. Good idea, but they produced it to quick before debuging it.

Get ya a different board..
