Album Review. Yardbirds: Birdland.
There's only one way to review this album. Pretend you've gone down to the club and paid $5 to see a Yardbirds 'cover' band who have added a few 'originals' to thier set list.
When the band is done, will you walk up to the club owner and ask for your money back? Tube say's NO! Tube thinks you will be smiling at the end of the show.
Part 1. The 'Remakes'.
Nothing will replace the original versions of the YB's classics. But the "guest" musicians *do* bring some new meat to the dinner table.
Part 2. The 'Originals' (new songs)
Some work, some don't, but mostly, they do! At this time we must notice that while all the other 'guests' play on the "old" songs, Jeff Beck sits in on a 'new' song. And once again shows what can be done with a single note.
And where the hell are Clapton and Paige? Too busy throwing thier kids out of windows, collecting Grammy's and making 2 million dollars each off of Cadillac commercials?
Well, like I said. You can't pretend this is a 'hot new' band. All you can do is listen for yourselves. I did. And I'm glad I did. I had fun.
