If you are just running a single PC from home with multiple users , I would say stick with XP , I havent seen the server but feel that it would probably offer no advantages in your situation. When altering systems I always get complaints from the family if something works even slightyly differently (and really cop it if it doesn't work at all).
good luck whatever you choose.

Got to agree with bossman here, if it's only a single pc then stick with XP, its much simpler and .NET wouldnt offer you any benefits

EDITED So it makes sense, D'OH!

If you have no problem with XP, why do you want to buy another OS ?

I will stick with XP Don't have the money to buy another one

i know your feelings: yea it is common - like to try new things. but cos this is a family pc i gotta agree with all others. windows 2003 server won't give u any new advantage than having xp. longhorn is too far. the next few near release for us by microsoft is office 2003. so stay tuned for that.

hi there,

now i got this problem.
i saw in Microsoft.com that the minimum speed requirement for windows 2003 is 133mhz. i went and checked the minimum speed requirement for windows xp and that was 233mhz! mg:" class="inlineimg" />
u guys think windows 2003 will be more efficient dealing with low processors. cos i was thinking to install it in my old pII 400. there is 512mb ram in that.
thanks for any ideas...

I installed it on my old 266. Running 128mb. It runs ok. Startup is a bit slow and the transitions they use (fading screens on boot and shutdown) are a bit laggy, but overall it works just fine.
But I also don't use it for general computing. I use it mainly as a file dump on my network. Am slowly but surely learning this stuff. Going to try making a file server/apps server here soon and see if I can get some software to run across a network.

Nothing like experimenting.

Yea stick with winxp. I have not heard a single reason to why you need to run a server.

cya,
Will
