I pretty sure there is a boot manager in windows xp but I'm not really sure how to use it.

I used XOSL wich is a great free boot manager, it can be found at h*tp://www.xosl.org/. It was really easy to install.

As far as a good linux distrobution. Its really hard to say, anyone you ask will say something different. I personaly like SuSE, I am also very new to linux and it was easy to install and set up. But you might just try one, and then try another to see wich one you like.

Well anyway I hope some of that rambling helped :P

CARTMAN is an unknown quantity at this point
Best for newbies is Mandrake I think I got now Slackware but its for intermediate-advanced users and you can easily make a LinuX-Windows dual-boot

Mandrake is very user friendly and has a boot manager with the install. I have very easily set up three OS'S with mandrake's boot manager .
