I just installed SP2 Beta 1185, and it has caused a tremendous slowdown in computer. It appears to be running at about 1/2 speed.
I have 1.6 Gig processor Pentium 4 with 640 mb ram.
It's actually quite painful to watch.

Jepp same here.. But one thing that got it so slow that i could get out and get a beer before i could open a folder was tweakxp . after uninsall it it goes faster again..same with the sp2fix that have been poster for speeding up after an upgrade to sp1. its gone here now and that helped a little. But im not impress of the speed.. But can it be that you/i havent done a clean install?

I don't have TweakXP installed.
I tried this thing twice with the same results.
I didn't do a clean install for SP2.
I have gone back to SP1 for now, and unless someone can help, will leave it alone until newer version comes out.
At least I was smart enough to use TrueImage for a backup before installing SP2.
This seems strange to me that they would put such a large, and seemingly useless, package out.
I did notice that Prefetch directory was removed from my setup both times. I wasn't using it anyway, but it might have something to do with the problem.
All Prefetch did was fill a folder with an awful lot of files that had nothing to do with booting, so I scrapped it.

I thought I read somewhere that sp2 had some huge problem with memory management?

I re-installed it for the 3rd time (I'm stubborn), and the results I got sounded like a memory management problem. It would run well for a while, the stink the place out, the run, then not -----

@robjohn - I had the same track record as you - uninstalled mine yesterday and the Start menu is no longer hanging as it did with SP2.

Maybe this topic should be tagged to save others the chore of downloading this beta.

I am sure SP2 doesn't slow everyone's machine down
who knows - maybe there is a memory management tweak for it

So far, almost EVERY person who has installed this has complained of the same slowdown problem; i have read this on LOTS of Boards...
So, the question becomes: Why the hell would you want to install this thing?????
If you have been using windows updates, regularly, you already have MOST of these fixes...
Guys, at least wait until the "Official" M$ release of SP2; if it fuc*s up your pc then, at least you can bitch right to them!!
:P :P :P
SP1 works well for most of us, so, at least for me, there will be NO SP2 V1185 going on any of my pc's..
Just my $.02...

Then DON'T install a BETA SP2.
Why not let beta testers (unless you like grief) test the betas?
Cannot imagine why anyone would install a beta servicepack in a properly functioning OS!
