Application Termination Reporting Beta Testing

Microsoft finally figured out that there are still alot of bug in Windows XP and have decided to ask for help to find and fix them. Well Luckily "SOME" people got accepted. Well one of our staffers who recieved this e-mail today and wants to stay anonymous but back to point that Microsoft is finally listening to us People again! hheh..Here is the e-mail!

Dear Microsoft Beta Tester,

Welcome to the beta release of the Application Termination Reporting update. The purpose of this program is to provide Microsoft with information about why unresponsive applications sometimes fail to shut down, so that we can continue to improve Windows' availability. The program is expected to last only a few weeks, but could be extended if
we need further data. We would appreciate it if you would install this update (see security notice below) as soon as possible, since we need to start collecting and analyzing reports very quickly.

As a reminder, this update should only be installed over 32-bit versions of Windows XP Service Pack 1 (either Home Edition or Professional).

Security Notice: We strongly recommend that you first install the latest critical updates to your computer before you install this reporting package. Installation and removal of the package is done using standard Windows update technology. You can uninstall at any time from the Add/Remove Programs applet in the control panel. However, if you need to apply subsequent critical updates from Microsoft, please first remove this ATR update. Otherwise, you could inadvertently lose a security or other critical patch. For that reason, you should also disable the Auto Update feature through Control Panel, System. Further information is available at the beta website as well as from the newsgroup.

This update extends Windows Error Reporting (a.k.a. Watson) to collect
and report additional timestamp and kernel information when you close a non-responsive application. It is normally inactive and only executes once the End Program dialog box appears, after you attempt to close a hung application. When you click End Now, additional information (click on details on the Watson dialog for more information) is collected and then added to the standard user-mode data that Windows Error Reporting sends to Microsoft. You must of course click Send Error Report, in order for the data to be sent. This is very important - otherwise there is no value in participating in this beta!

If you know of specific ways to hang an application (for example, trying to burn a CD or DVD), we would like you to cause this to happen and then provide us the error reports.

We will be providing support for the beta program through newsgroups and BetaPlace. BetaPlace is Microsoft's technical beta web community where
