As you may already be aware, Microsoft will be upgrading their Sharepoint Team Services servers to "Beta 2 bits", according to Microsoft today.
WinBeta.Org

--- email ---

In preparation for Beta 2 which will be coming in Q1 2003, the Office 11 pre-release program that you are participating in will be upgrading the Hosted SharePoint Team Services Beta 1 servers to Beta 2 bits in mid February 2003.

This letter is being sent to inform you, the site owner and beta participant, of our plan to upgrade these servers and the potential impact to your hosted beta site. This message will be sent twice to the site owners of record for the beta program.

We strongly advise you to ensure that you have copies of any data that is stored on your beta site. The EULA that was included with the beta explains that there are no guarantees for the use or reliability of this beta software. You should be aware that during the beta 1 to beta 2 upgrade process, some or all the changes you have made or information you have stored in the beta site may not be migrated properly, and could be permanently lost.

Additionally, if the upgrade process fails for some reason while migrating your content, we may have to list what is in your site, and delete any data, webs, documents, users, or other changes to the site, that are blocking the completion of the upgrade.

Unless we specifically ask you for permission to do so, we will not be opening any documents. However, if we need to we will list everything in the site, including:

document names;
user names, and email addresses;
list, web site, or property names;
any other customization of the beta site hosted on the stsbeta.iponet.net servers.

The purpose of listing this information will be to identify what the upgrade process cannot work through, and remove it. Any such lists of information that are gathered during the beta 1 to beta 2 upgrade will only be used to complete the upgrade process, and will not be preserved by Microsoft for any other purpose, unless we are specifically granted permission by you to do so.

The current plan is that the upgrade will begin at any time after February 10, 2003. If you do not wish to have any of the information in the site viewed by Microsoft during the upgrade, you must delete the site content, or the site itself, before the upgrade begins.

If you have specific questions concerning this, please post them to the general newsgroup.

Thank you The Microsoft Office Team
