I have two machines: A Plll running XP and an old P120 running Win2K [yes it works very well and is no slower than Win98SE but much more reliable!]

My problem is this: The two boxes are connected by a LAN and the LAN is working fine. Both machines can see each other and fuile transfer between machines works perfectly. However, the P120 cannot connect to the Net. I've been through all the help topics for XP and made all the necessary settings but it still will not work.

Cna ne1 help with this?

If the info I have given is not enough, please ask.

I guess you actualle havenīt made all the necessary settings...
I canīt tell you what that is wrong, but I think you can get further inspiration at www.practicallynetworked.com, maybe even http://www.practicallynetworked.com/...oubleshoot.htm (if you havenīt allready been there, of course).

pcservicetech is an unknown quantity at this point
When you setup home networking on XP at the end of the wizard it gives you an opportunity to make a network setup disk for other windows Os's. Make the disk and run the wizard on the box in question.

tnx my friend but it doesn't work! my second box is running win2k. when i use the network setup disk it says it's only compatible with win98, win98se, winme and winxp. it says to look in the help file for other systems. f*ing useless!

Hi Folks, there is quite a bit about ICS in the forums at http://www.dslreports.com as well. Could look there as well. If I remember correctly folks there had an answer for this problem.

Check that XP has not changed the ip address of it's card, which is normall under internet connection sharing IMHO it is a pile of poo and open to hacking. you are better off setting your w2k box to connect via the box manually

tnx, smeggy. you are obviously more adept than ia am! could you put what you said in more layman's terms. e.g. '...the ip address of it's card...' i understand ip address but what 'card'? And what about '...setting your win2k box to connect via the box manually.'

Sorry ofr being a pain in the ass but could you explain a little more? thankx
