why was my post "why not to have active chat on the front page deleted"

I thought it brought up a good point? So is there a good explanation for it, NO I think not, if it was moved point me in the right direction.

The original post contained a large excert from IRC listing quotes many people found homourous. Admittedly some contained language which may be deemed offensive.

For the benefit of the easilly offended we are adding an automatic word filter and the option to turn the frame off completly. There are many however who believe stronyl that there should be a free and uncensored place for discussion amongst our members.

The reply posted by DormantEagle raises a very valid point. You are criticising text which appeared temporarily, yet you post it on the board intending original text to appear permanantly. Isnt this self-contradicting?

No, it's not, the board is not the first thing I see, again you were wrong you could have edited the post not deleted it. When I opened betaone that was the first thing I saw and I am a member, but what if someone clicked over from the microsoft help site? I see old habits are hard to die. The resolution was wrong period. Dormanteagle probably hasn't been a member as long as I have and seen what goes on here like I have. There was a better way to handle it. deleting it was wrong period.

Oh and I guess now if I don't like a post I can have it deleted also?

3. BetaONE is a family friendly board. Members should NOT post racist, sexist, homophobic, or in general, derogatory comments. There is NO flaming on BetaONE! Period!

Just to clarify something. DormantEagle is member ID 121, you are 231. He has been with us significantly longer. This is IRRELEVANT, so please dont bring it up, especially as your facts are incorrect.

Secondly, the post was not deleted because we dissagreed with your opinion. It was deleted because you criticised text on betaone, which stayed there for a total of 5 seconds, and you made it PERMANANT in your criticism. There was nothing to edit, as the entire post was a log and one sentance. THIS post, however asks a question, does it honeslty, and we are prepared to discuss.

As I already mentioned, I agree with your concerns and am working on addressing them now. All I dissagred with was the WAY in which you brought the problem to our attention.

The word probably was used because I was not sure, so my bases are cleared on that, lets not split hairs. Number two, yes it could have been edited, you could have deleted the text and explained in there, some thing to the effect of "we are aware of your concerns and are working on them" or what you wrote above would have covered it or something to that effect but that wasn't done the post was just deleted without word or warning not even a pm, (as is the history here) if we don't get the same respect/courtesy from admins/mods why should we give the same?

It was there more than 5 seconds also I was able to cut, paste and post when I went back to the front page it was still there

We assumed the reply had stayed there for sufficiently long for everyone to see it. We were wrong. Sorry.

The situation has been temporarily solved by delinking the frame from IRC while we implement better filtering measures.

You had time to copy and paste? Yes, you can scroll up. You pasted 20 lines, only 5 can be seen at any given time. Not important now tho.

Update: The channel has now been relinked. Automated filtering has been added.

Many expletives are replaced with milder words. These will be placed in brackets.

If a strong sexual expletive or highly objectionable word is detected, the message will be fully filtered and replaced with the text "*** this message has been filtered in the public viewer".

Automated filtering is not perfect. If I missed some words, please tell me and I will update it ASAP.

On a related note, whilst we do not want offensive messages displayed in public, the channel rules are generally more relaxed and we do not censor free speech unless absolutly neccessary for the integrity of our community.
