NTFS Question

What makes a NTFS Disk is it FDisk or is it Format if so which Fdisk-Format does this????jtk

The formatting of the disk is when the NTFS is done.

You mean the Formating is making the NTFS partition not the
Fdisk is there a Format.com files that is used to format NTFS disk,
and where can i find this Format,com file.
Can i then Fdisk in dos then format to NTFS in dos?

If you have a computer with no os loaded you can format the harddrive either using a tool like Partition Magic (there might be others too) or during the setup of winnt/2k/xp. If you allready have winnt/2k/xp loaded you format the partition from inside the os using the disk managing tool.

What is your situation here, what is it you need to do?

I am making a good up to date boot disk with utils, the disk has dos fdisk - format etc. but how does the ntfs format work. and which files do i need to ntfs format the hard disk when in a dos situation at a: prompt.
I mean to format fat 16 fat32 you only need format.com but what is needed to ntfs format.
Or is it not possible??.jtk

Hi,
to update your boot disk, you may use xformat (wich includes ntfs formating) and free fdisk (wich also take
care of ntfs partitioning).

jtk: (To my limited knowledge) this isn't possible. I guess you are aiming for a dos-based bootfloppy. One possible way to think about is to start with the "rescue-floppies" that can be made with Partition Magic. A modification of their content might end with something good.

Then one also might wonder why making such a floppy. It might be easier to squeeze everything you want into a CD instead. Or you might find it pretty unnecessary as formatting a partition to NTFS is well done within the winnt/2k/xp setup.
