Recently acquired a movie in MPEG format. It sounds great but unfortunately there isn't a picture. WMP says there is an error locating codec.

I have both Nimo and DivX codecs; any ideas?

... you dont have de correct codec. There are more than two.
Also try another player, bsplayer or radlight.

If your MPEG file is in MPEG2 format, you need a codec for it.
MPEG2 is for SVCD and DVD movies
Both Nimo and Divx are for .AVI (?) and not for playing MPEG streams.

This is an MPEG2 Installer that is totally freeware. http://www.ramm.net/modules.php?name...p=getit&lid=42
This one i have used myself with good results.

Or, if you install a DVDplayer program, the codec there will be used

You might do a search for "freecodecinstaller.zip".
This installer program will correctly install the FreeDVD audio and video codecs for viewing DVD
media on a home PC. These codecs are a ideal for systems running Windows XP as Windows XP is not
packaged with DVD codecs.

The link below will give you information and also have a link at the bottom of the page for you to download "Gspot". It will tell you which type of codec was used for audio and what type was usde for audio. If I am not wrong it will tell you if it is installed or not.

Now don`t go and get your hopes up cause it is a real good possibility that you have a corrupt download. I have downloaded videos from several different spots and came up with different results.
Some no sound and some no video, but this will tell you where the problem most likely is at.....

Good Luck

Thanks! The GSpot pgm is exactly what I've been wanting to find. I don't know much about video, but at least this gives me a clue about whether I have a bad file.
