Optimizing Hardware & Software for Windows XP

I installed Windows XP SP1 just now.

Before I install anymore software, I want to be confident with every step I gonna do -- to keep this Windows installation as perfect as possible (I am sicka formatting and reinstalling Windows) and I wanna keep this installation as long as possible I beg you guys' help.

Okay, here I am gonna start my first question...

I heard that before installing burning applications in Windows XP, it recommended to disable the CD recording in Windows XP. I think the person who wrote this is thinking that there will be no driver conflicts if we disable the Windows XP's (Adaptec) CD Burning plug-in and install Nero Burning ROM.

What do you think? Do you recommend to do so as well?

I didn't disable the built in DirectCD that XP has, but I also never tried to use it. I use Nero and CDRWin mostly, but also use CloneCD and Alcohol120% and don't have any problems with any of them.

I've tested Nero 5.5 and Clone CD 3.4 with the XP burn option activated and it works perfectly.
Just one thing. If you don't need to use that XP option, disable it.
Why ???
Because when you select a file and put it into a burn wait list, you won't be able to manage it anymore.
Until you really burn it. Seems crazy but you can't rename it, move it or erase it.
Because, each time you insert a blank CD, Xp will ask you if you want to use it etc....
Easy no !!!

If you want to really optimise for your hardware, I suggest you install the OS from source code (compiled for your system by your system) like Gentoo Linux. .

Only kidding. I think that if you install only what is necessary, then create an image of that using Norton Ghost you should be OK.

this not right you could all the time open the burner drive lets say it is E:\ and you will see on the side menu file to be written and you will also get an option to delete temporary to burn files and if do so you will never see them again.
