Open+, simply put, eliminates the issues of file associations in Windows - a problem not truly addressed until now. File association is simply an old mechanism in Windows inherited from the pre-Windows era (the DOS personal computer days). It works by looking at a file's extension which is the characters after the last dot of any file name (.html, .mp3, .jpg, .doc, and so on). Windows launches the program that last claimed that file type. The problem is that many programs can open a given file type, and until Open+, there was simply no sane mechanism in Windows to cater to multiple programs using the same extension(s). Furthermore, the program that takes 'ownership' of the file is usually the last program you installed and quite often is not the program you really want to own the extensions it took over. Open+ eliminates these issues and also enhances the very nature of associations in Windows.
