The biggest change is restored support for Java Virtual Machine, which had been removed from newer versions of Explorer and XP because of a lawsuit filed by Sun Microsystems. Take one Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) operating system, add fixes for several hundred bugs and security holes, toss in a dash of Justice Department agreement, and you have the recipe for the first Windows XP service pack. This long-awaited fix from Uncle Bill and the Boys from Redmond is basically a collection of all of the emergency fixes the company has made available through its update site -- plus a few new bells and whistles -- since XP Home and XP Professional became available.
