I'm currently selling my Voodoo5 (out of my old P3-500) machine and I was just wondering if it was worth it to get a Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 64Meg KYRO II. Since I'm very poor right now ($100-160 range) and I don't get my paycheck until the 31st, I'm thinking about replacing my V5. What kind of performance increase will I expect from a KYRO II and what features will I have to add or sacrifice? Currently though I don't have enough money for a Radeon...

Personally, I would wait a month or two for the Geforce3 MX version. The Raedon will not offer that big of a performance boost, while the Geforce3 MX will show a considerable jump and support more modern features.

Kyro 2 is GREAT
GF3 MX will be pretty expensiva, and from what I've heard it won't be DX 8.0 compatible
if that's rtue it's basically a faster GF2

The GeForce3 MX isn't a faster GF2, its a slower Geforce3. It's going to be marketed at the the mainstream buyer, so it will likely fall in the 100-160 price range. Its just an option though. Also, it would be really dumb of nVidia to strip away the DirectX 8 features in the G3 for the G3 MX. Hope you enjoy whatever you get.

Got my KYRO II yesterday. It's great, even though not as fast as the GF3, but near GF2-Ultra performance. Still trying to save some bucks on getting a Radeon 8500 for my primary machine.

sorry
it seems to be DX8 compliant
I got confused by a statement that said "the MX will have 80% of it's bigger brother features but will be sold at a more reasonable price"

and yeah, make sure you save some bucks for 8500
I'm gonna get the AIW version if it's as fast as the ordinary one
or maybe the 8500 MAXX
it will surely kill even the GF3Ultra

I don't get my paycheck until the very last week of this month, but by that time it should probably be released and I'll have enough bucks for it. I heard that EBWorld was taking preorders for $100 less than retail stores...hmm...I think I'll check that out.
