Further GeForce 9600 GT 512MB Reviews

NVIDIA is back again with another new mid-range part, this time under the disguise of the GeForce 9000-series descriptor. The GeForce 9600 GT aims at the price point that AMD's HD 3850 sits in, from $170-$200, and will surely push their previous 8600-series cards out the door once and for all.

Nvidia rumours have abounded and been promising something new for a little while now. Instead of going straight in at the top end, Nvidia have decided that they will beef up their mid-range, which is obviously the highest selling of their add in cards.

Today NVIDIA introduces the first card of the GeForce (http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Z..._Amp_Edition/#) 9 Series. The GeForce 9600 GT we have on the testbench today is based on the new G94 core which is basically a cut down version of the G92 used on several GeForce 8 products like 8800 GT and 8800 GTS 512. NVIDIA took most of the G92 design and removed 64 shader pipes. The render backend has remained the same. From an engineering standpoint there is absolutely no reason why this product should be called GeForce 9 and not be a GeForce 8 product. However, since the GeForce 8 lineup is already quite crowded and GeForce 9 needs a lower midrange product anyway, NVIDIA chose to call it Geforce 9600 GT. When comparing GeForce 8600 GT with 9600 GT, NVIDIA claims that performance will double just by moving one generation ahead.

The new GeForce 9600 GT is poised to deliver high performance for under $200. We take the new BFGTech GeForce 9600 GT OC for a spin in Crysis, COD 4, and UT3 to test its mettle. Is your hard earned cash better spent on a Radeon HD 3850, Radeon HD 3870, or GeForce 8800 GT.

Today marks the launch of the latest graphics card from NVIDIA called the 9600 GT. We are going to take a look at a stock clocked 9600 GT from XFX today and see how well the first 9000 series graphics card from NVIDIA performs. Read on for all the details.
