The Scythe Nina is a well known heatsink with a unique take on an already popular design. The concept of a heatsink utiliing heatpipes is not a new one. Where the Scythe differs is in the implementation of this design element. Scythe has adopted a more is better approach with regards to the heatpipes and integrated more heatpipes in a crosshatch design. The heat is carried away from the copper base in both directions instead of one simple U shape which most other heatsinks employ. As you will see below the Scythe uses an X design with 6 total heatpipes. Additionally Scythe has cut the fins that rise from the design in an X fashion to possibly increase airflow and surface area. They have also left a wider gap between fin placement, a design break with traditional heatsinks which results in less fins but may also results in more airflow across the fins. We shall see if this hurts or helps its performance. What Scythe probably intends as the result is a more even distribution of heat across the fins, more airflow, and thus more heat dissipation.
