AMD no longer FASN8ted
Gr8tful dead

WE ARE HEARING from system vendors that AMD's much-touted FASN8 platform is dead. Not sleeping, not imminently on the way out, but dead.

The platform was due to see two Phenom processors (for eight-core action) combined with RD790 and four Radeon HD 2900s in a funky combo before the year was out - an ambitious task if ever there was one.

But it seems that the folks at DAAMIT may have overstretched themselves on this one - making QuadFire work must be hard enough, but doing it on a dual-processor-socket motherboard must be even harder, especially on an upcoming, untested chipset.

There must also be some doubt about who on earth would a) require that much power and b) have the $10k required to drop on such an endeavour, particularly given the relatively poor performance of the Radeon 2900 XT so far and the lack of any foreseeable updates to that marchitecture.
Anybody hearing anything different?
