iSuppli does not categorize the iPhone as a smartphone, because "users cannot load third-party software onto the product, which is a key requirement to qualify for smart-phone status." Instead it categorizes it as a "crossover phone", one that has some characteristics of a smartphone, and some characteristics of a "feature phone" (one with "rich functionality).
Whether or not you believe the iPhone is a smartphone or not, it's a hot seller. In iSuppli's latest report (
http://www.isuppli.com/news/default....424&m=9&y=2007) on smartphone sales, in July, its first full month of sales, the iPhone outpaced all smartphones - and matched the best-selling "feature phone," the LG Chocolate (
