Following a July 5 article in which Digitimes reported that OLPC was aiming to reach a price of US$50 in 2009 for its XO notebook, a spokesperson for Race Point Group, the public relations firm that represents OLPC, was cited by Ars Technica as refuting the report and saying that US$50 has never been discussed as a target.
However, the statements of the PR firm are at odds with OLPC documents and roadmaps that Mary Lou Jepsen, the founding chief technology officer (CTO) of OLPC, presented to companies during her recent visit to Taiwan.
