My original xp mediaplayer worked OK before.

Since Installing the new MediaPlayer 9 beta, it won't stream
video or radio stations.

It keeps saying connecting but never does

Is there a way of uninstalling it...

I can't do a ssystem restore...Have already tried....

Thanks

Hi,

F'ing same thing for me. I copied the WMP v8 directory before installing WMP v9 beta just incase, but you can't even use the old directory by renaming back to original, get error message.

Fortunately I have 3 levels of Symantec Ghost Imagefiles, I was able to restore previous imagefile and back in action within 5 minutes with all of my previous settings there as well.

P.S.: I could never get XP's System Retore to work consistently, Ghost has never let me down, probably my favorite programs and it's a MS-DOS program at that

This is what I read yesterday, you can't uninstall it

You can only if you have an image like daMANwithANSWERZ

You are probably running a 3rd party firewall. There is a fix out for this problem that was posted at various forums. Check driverheaven and Osbetas.com. I also think Bink has it up on his page.

I'll save yopu the trouble. Following is the info -

Microsoft has received reports of the Windows Media Player 9 Series Beta crashing when attempting to stream from over the network when there is a third party firewall software installed on the computer.

Problem:
On Windows XP and Windows .NET Server the Windows Media Player 9 Series Beta calls into a new Winsock API for performance reasons. There are some incompatibilities when using this API with existing third party firewall software.

Workaround: The following steps are intended to serve as an interim workaround for the Beta release of the Windows Media Player 9 Series.

1) Quit the Media Player if it is running.
2) Copy the file C:Windowssystem32wmnetmgr.dll to the "C:Program FilesWindows Media Player" directory.
3) Rename the new copy of the file (in the "C:Program FilesWindows Media Player" directory) to wspwsp.dll.
4) Open a command window (click the "Start" button and select "Run" then type CMD.EXE and hit enter).
5) Type in the following line into the command window and hit the enter key: regsvr32.exe "C:Program FilesWindows Media Playerwspwsp.dll"
6) Run the Windows Media Player 9 Series beta and attempt to stream content from over the network.
NOTE: Following these steps are not supported and Microsoft is not responsible for any problems that may occur as a result.
