Hi

I don't know if this info is of any use but I was playing around with a key changing utility (bored I suppose and I like fiddling around) and I launched it and changed the key but the activation window came back up. I closed this window as stated in info but upon checking with the "WinInfo" tool, I got:

Activation Status: Required. 0 Days left

Now the key was actually changed and the Product ID as shown in System Properties had also changed. The key I used was not one of those blacklisted. I then changed the key again to the original one (again, not blacklisted) that I had installed XP with and, which was accepted during upgrade to SP1, but again WinInfo told me the same story....Activation Required....0 Days left.

Well, unless I'm wrong, any, and I mean ANY keys produced by the KeyGen will be kicked out.

Comments appreciated please.

As for me, I'm going to install my "legal" copy of XP Home OEM version, using my "legal" key.

Regards

I installed SP1 on a Retail Pro that I had activated earlier this year (using a KG generated Key). No problems with Windows Update afterwards. So far, so good.

g-string.

Quick question, did you reboot before trying wininfo? I have tried it on other machines after a key change and seen wininfo reporting between 0 and 333452 days left for activation. It only corrected itself after i had done a full reboot of the system

Hi DoG

I just got back from a trip and read your post.

Answer: As my computer is normally left on 24/7, I did not reboot but, I have just done that very thing and I'm pleased to say, at least for the time being, I'm still activated. )

PHEW!

I have my 'legal' OEM version/key on standby though.......just in case.

Sorry about the false alarm folks.

Regards

I did the same thing and got the exact the same results on Corp (legal). After I reboot, the key was changed back!!!
