Just did a direct x test, and noticed no 3d accel or texturing available with RC1

Is it possible to enable? I dont see it within services. Or do I need direct x 9?

It is...

1) Firstly hardware acceleration is set to a very low value on .NET (I guess they cant trust their own software will be stable enough). You need to go into display properties, properties for your graphics card, and set it to full.

2) Then start, run, type dxdiag... select the tab for your video adaptor and enable DirectDraw, DirectX, etc...

a server isn't meant to use 3d acceleration but if you want to use it, that's your choice

@zone - yes I already did all of that and still no acceleration. Wierd.

@harry - yes I know that. Duron processors were also designed for print servers, and are now widely used in workstations. Unless you have a vailid suggestion, nuff said k?

The whole idea here for me is to see if I can run a stable server and use it on occassion for a game, etc.

Adding the latest chipset drivers for the via chipset allows enabling acceleration options in direct x

So now I have a enterprise server running games and functioning as a stable server.

Thanks guys for the help along the way.

harrytoole, as to your comment, I dissagree...

Of course if you run a misson critical server for a large organisation, playing mafia on it 24/7 isnt a good idea... Then again if your running a mission critical server, you wouldnt be running windows on it in the first place

The thing is I can see why for power users .NET is a better choice than XP. Theres more options to play around with. Terminal services supports concurent use by several users, IIS supports hosting multiple sites, built in servers for streaming media etc... A lot of features power users can find useful... and if its just for home use/experimenting, why the hell follow an unwritten rule that its either a 100% stable server, or if you want to run games you canr run IIS?
